You can help plant natives on Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 AM – Noon at Timrod Park in Florence.  Volunteers should meet at the large rain garden which is close to the playground.  If you have gloves and a shovel, please bring them with you if you don’t, we will have extra tools onsite.  For more information, contact Terasa Young at 843-661-4800 x 113 or terasa@clemson.edu.  Click here to learn more about the National Planting Day Initiative.

September 8, 2012 marked the first ever National Planting Day hosted by Keep America Beautiful, its affiliates, and its partners.  National Planting Day was established to celebrate the value and power of native species in restoring ecological balance to the environment while creating greener, more beautiful communities.

Native plants are very important for attracting specialized pollinators which lead to the production of food for birds and ultimately many more animals higher up on the food chain.  Native plants also provide wildlife habitat.  As an added bonus, they tend to have lower maintenance, fertilizer, and water requirements making them easier to care for.
