Adopt-A-Trail/Park Program

Adopt-A-Trail/Park is a volunteer program that gives the public an opportunity to be actively involved in conserving and maintaining the natural wealth and beauty of the City of Florence’s park and trail system. Individuals, families, businesses, youth groups, faith communities, or civic organizations can partner with Keep Florence Beautiful (KFB) to continue to beautify our city through its parks and trails.

Objectives for the Adopt-A-Trail/Park Program Are:

  • To ensure the continued enjoyment of parks and trails in the City of Florence.
  • To promote physical fitness and community.

Adopt-A-Trail/Park Volunteers are asked to:

  • Litter and Debris Removal: Pick up litter and debris along park/trail corridor. When at all possible, recyclable materials should be kept separate from the trash materials.
  • Tree Condition: In park/trail segments with city owned trees, check trees for broken limbs, trunk damage and/or decay, and remove weeds from mulched area at base of tree.
  • Trail Maintenance: Inspect paved park/trail surface and report any potholes, surface cracking, settling or other unusual conditions.
  • Bridge Inspection: In park/trail segments that include bridges/boardwalks, inspect for damaged deck boards, handrails and other components.
  • Amenity Inspection: Inspect the condition of any park/trail amenities (such as benches) located within the adopted trail segment.
  • Report Illegal Activity: This includes drug activity, offensive graffiti, homelessness, etc.
  • Complete a cleanup at least once per quarter (4 times a year) for two consecutive years.
  • Complete an Adopt-A-Park/Trail Volunteer Work Form at the completion of each cleanup and submit it to Keep Florence Beautiful.

Keep Florence Beautiful will:

  • Recognize the volunteer group on an Adopt-A-Park/Trail sign placed along the adopted segment. After two cleanups, an AAPT sign (example provided below) will be paid for by KFB acknowledging your service. If there is a request for additional signs, those will be the responsibility of the volunteer group to purchase. Placement locations will be agreed upon by KFB staff.
  • Provide trash bags, gloves and vests.
  • Pick-up filled trash bags at a pre-specified location. Notice must be given to KFB 48 hours in advance of the clean-up day.

If you or your group are interested in the AAPT program, please complete the form here.
