Every pair of hands Makes a difference

Whether you have an hour or a whole Saturday, there’s away for you to help make Florence more Beautiful

Volunteer with us

Every pair of hands makes Florence a little better. Our volunteers show up at parks, neighborhoods, schools, and public spaces across Florence County to do the work that matters — picking up litter, planting trees, mentoring young people, and proving that this community takes care of its own.

You don’t need experience. You don’t need special skills. You just need to show up. We provide the supplies, the plan, and the team. Whether you have an hour on a Saturday morning or want to commit to a regular role, there’s a place for you at Keep Florence Beautiful.

River SweepEvery year, Keep Florence Beautiful participate in River Sweep — a statewide volunteer event dedicated to cleaning and restoring the waterways that are the lifeblood of Florence County. From the Great Pee Dee River to Jeffries Creek and the smaller streams that run through our neighborhoods, our waterways face constant threats from litter, illegal dumping, and stormwater runoff.
On River Sweep day, volunteers of all ages fan out across the county to pull trash, tires, furniture, and other debris from the water and along the banks. It’s hard work — and it’s one of the most impactful things we do all year.
What makes River Sweep special is that the results are immediate and visible. In a single day, volunteers can transform a stretch of creek from an eyesore into a place where wildlife returns, kids can play, and neighbors feel proud again.
No experience is needed. We provide gloves, bags, waders, and safety briefings. Just bring your energy and a love for Florence County’s natural spaces.

Adoption programs

Choose a street, park, intersection, or trail in Florence and commit to keeping it clean and beautiful year-round. We’ll provide supplies, a recognition sign, and support from the KFB team.

It’s a simple commitment with a visible impact. Your neighbors will notice, and many will join in.

How it works:

  1. Pick your spot — a stretch of road, a park corner, or a public area near you
  2. Sign up — fill out our quick form and we’ll confirm your spot
  3. Keep it clean — visit your spot at least twice a month to pick up litter and report any issues
  4. Get recognized — we’ll install a sign with your name or organization and feature you on our site

It’s one of the most visible and rewarding ways to make a difference. When your neighbors see that sign with your name on it, it sends a powerful message — someone cares about this place. And that kind of pride is contagious.

River Sweep

On River Sweep day, volunteers of all ages wade in with gloves, trash bags, and a shared determination to protect the water we all depend on. In a single day, crews remove thousands of pounds of trash — tires, bottles, furniture, and debris that harm wildlife, contaminate water, and diminish the natural beauty of Florence County.

What makes River Sweep special is that the results are immediate and visible. Stretches of creek that were eyesores in the morning become places where wildlife returns, kids can explore, and neighbors feel proud again by afternoon. It’s hard work — and it’s one of the most rewarding days of the year.

Great American Cleanup

very spring, Keep Florence Beautiful joins thousands of KAB affiliates across the country for the Great American Cleanup — the nation’s largest community improvement program. As an official affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, KFB mobilizes volunteers throughout Florence County to clean up litter, remove debris, plant trees and flowers, and beautify public spaces during this national campaign.

The Great American Cleanup is more than a single event — it’s a season of action. From March through June, KFB organizes and supports dozens of cleanup and beautification projects across Florence County. Neighborhoods, schools, churches, businesses, and civic groups all come together with one shared goal — making Florence cleaner, greener, and more beautiful.
